THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ART AND GRAFFITI

(Los Angeles December 13, 2004) – The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works Graffiti Abatement Program is hosting Art in the Park, showcasing the “Difference Between Art and Graffiti” at Valleydale Park, 5525 N. Lark Ellen Avenue, Azusa, CA Saturday, January 22, 2005 from 10am to 2pm. Click here for a map.

Art in the Park, presented in association with the Department of Parks and Recreation, will feature over 20 exhibitors, lots of food, entertainment and fun.

The main event of the day is a free art contest for young artists, 25 years of age and younger. Under 18 may enter with parent or guardian approval. Artists will be competing to place their designs on a Kevin Conway’s race car that will race at California Speedway on February 26, 2005. All entries in the art contest will highlight the “Difference Between Art and Graffiti” and will be judged by a combined panel of art museum staff, art instructors and professional artists that may represent institutions such as the County of Los Angeles Arts Council, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Petersen Automotive Museum.

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

· Overall creativity/originality
· Composition
· Techniques/Use of media
· Concept development
· Appropriateness to the “Difference Between Art and Graffiti” theme

All entries must be two-dimensional pieces of art and on the Official contest temple that is on a paper no larger than 8.5" x 11". Only Paper, Tempera, Crayons, Markers and watercolor (No oils or acrylics) can be used to create artwork. All artwork must be the original design and work of the participant. Click here for rules.
